Background

Thušanang was formed as an association in 1986 in response to the needs of the disadvantaged people in the immediate area. In 1992 the Trust was registered and the Thušanang Centre was built. The Centre allows us to offer residential training and development opportunities to rural women and men from the surrounding communities in the Capricorn, Mopani and Vhembe Districts of Limpopo. Workshops and on-site training are conducted in the communities where we are involved but the Centre continues to be the heart of Thušanang’s activities.

Thušanang’s strength over the past 35 years has been solid governance and the ability to adapt our strategies in a changing political and social environment. We are committed to education, capacity building and action within our communities and seek to respond to identified needs. The majority of our activities are conducted through community Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres where we reach the communities through the ECD practitioners, committees and parents. Our core focus is young children who are the future of South Africa.

Networking

Thušanang is affiliated to the Ntataise Trust. We network with other organisations in our field and are a member of the National ECD Alliance (NECDA) and the Association of Limpopo ECD and RTO NGOs (ALERT).
